In the context of the 14th IAEC Congress, which will be held in Rosario from June 1st to June 4th – 2016, the ceremony for the designation of the Honorary Committee members was headed by the Mayor Mónica Fein the 18th December.
Those who were called to be part due to their condition of social, cultural and public management referents were the Principal of the National University of Rosario, Héctor Floriani; the former Mayor of Rosario, Hermes Juan Binner, the minister of Innovation and Culture, María de los Ángeles Chiqui González; the minister of Education Claudia Balagué; the local writer Angélica Gorodischer; the artist and director of Design and Urban image, Dante Taparelli, and the first director and promoter of Rosario’s joining to the IAEC, Alicia Cabezudo. The journalist and writer Reynaldo Sietecase, the writer Patricia Suárez and the Director of the UNESCO Principal Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Jorge Sequeira are members too but they could not be present due to timetable issues.
The ceremony took place in the Carrasco room of the “Palacio de los Leones” (Palace of the Lions), main municipal building of the city of Rosario. Among other guests, were the Municipal Secretary of Culture and Education, Guillermo Ríos; the Director of the 14th Congress of Educating Cities, María Silvia Serra, and the Director of the Educating Cities Regional Office for Latin America, Laura Alfonso.
As president of the Honorary Committee, the Mayor Mónica Fein thanked the compromise of all the members and reflected on the values they promote: “The city is school, and the city has an essential role in education”, she said and she added that “we cannot do nothing and then ask the school to change all our daily cultural patterns”. She also argued “To me, that’s a terrible contradiction. We need to think that the education is in the collective practices that we can do as society”.
