Southern District Municipal Centre
The Roundtable “Territorial politics: Strategies for the appropriation of the public space and the citizen participation” will take place at the Southern District Municipal Centre. In addition, there will be a Projects Fair and the Visit to Experiences: Rosario, Educating City.
With the inauguration of the “Rosa Ziperovich” Southern District Municipal Centre, a new stage of the decentralization and municipal modernization process is concreted. The main goals of this stage are to stimulate the citizen participation and to bring the government administration closer to the interests and needs of the neighbors of the city.
The building, designed by the famous Portuguese architect, Álvaro Siza, is considered an iconic architectural masterpiece in Latin American, and it was distinguished as Patrimonial and Urban Culture Centre by the Preservation and Rehabilitation Program of the Planning Secretary and the Institute for the History of the Architecture (Instituto de Historia de la Arquitectura, IDEHA) of the Architecture, Planning and Design College of the National University of Rosario (Facultad de Arquitectura, Planeamiento y Diseño, Universidad Nacional de Rosario).
The building’s program involves a covered surface of 3.900 m2 and it develops around a civic square, from which two related areas are defined: an administrative area and a socio-cultural area comprised of multiple use rooms, workshops and a fully equipped auditorium. The surface of the foundation ground was enough to solve the needs and design of the building in only one level, thus avoiding the presence of stairs and elevators, and enabling the linkage between different activities.
